Chemical Peels

DESCRIPTION:

We customize your peel based on your treatment goals. Peels can help to

  • Reduce Acne

  • Improve Skin Texture

  • Reduce Fine Lines and Wrinkles

  • Soften the Appearence of Scars


CONTRAINDICATIONS:

  • Allergies and skin reactions to a previous peel.

  • Allergies to aspirin for salicylic peels

  • Rosacea

  • Use of Accutane in the past year.

  • Pregnant or nursing mothers

  • Irritated, sensitive skin, open wounds, or areas that have undergone extractions.

  • Active Herpes Simplex breakout, warts, or a history of keloidal scarring.


BEFORE:

  • Daily use of SPF 40+ required

  • Avoid waxing or shaving 48 hours before

  • Avoid exfoliating products 4 days prior

  • Avoid retinols and retinoids 4 days prior

  • Excessive sun exposure

  • Get a prescription for an antiviral if you have a history of cold sores


AFTER:

  • Continue daily use of SPF 40+

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure

  • Avoid exfoliations until peeling is done, usually about a week

  • Do not pick or peel dry, flaking skin

  • Avoid sweating, exercising and extreme heat until finished peeling

  • Keep skin moisturized


SKIN PREP FOR FITZPATRIK IV, V, AND VI:

To help reduce the likelihood of hyperpigmentation, it is essential that the following patients take extra precautions (in addition to the before and after care mentioned above) to prepare the skin for a peel:

  • A Fitzpatrick score of IV, V, or VI

  • Ethnically (even if only a small percentage) Asian, Pacific Islander, African, Middle Eastern, or Latin

  • a history of hyperpigmentation

FOUR WEEKS PRIOR:

AFTERCARE:

  • Must commit to reapplication of SPF 40+ every 2 hours
